In Drumshanbo Vocational School, we believe that everybody in our school community sees themselves as playing an integral role in supporting students’ (and each other’s) well-being.
In the Healthy Ireland Framework for Improved Health and Well-being- “Everyone can enjoy physical and mental health and well-being to their full potential, where well-being is valued and supported at every level of society and is everyone’s responsibility”. (Department of Health (2013). Healthy Ireland: A framework for improved health and well-being. 2013-2025)
Drumshanbo Vocational School pilot new Youth Mental Health Programme 2025/2026
Rising Minds is a new mental health and wellbeing programme, Drumshanbo Vocational School is one of nine schools in the country who are piloting this programme.
This programme developed with psychologists, teachers, guidance councillors and young people themselves supports first year students as they navigate the transition into post primary school.
It introduces the concept of mental fitness, equipping young people with practical tools to build resilience, manage emotions and strengthen relationships, helping them to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Ms. Denise O Connor (Wellbeing Co Ordinator) speaking at our recent Photo Shoot said. ‘We are delighted to be part of this pilot. The material is engaging and relevant, it gives students real tools to understand themselves and build empathy for others. Students love the layout of the material, it is fresh, fun and leaving an impression on students.
This programme is supported by Aura, this partnership shows what is possible when schools and local organisations work together.
